6 Tips to Make Every Date Feel Like the First

#MenageMix: 6 Tips to Keep the Sparks Alive

The beginning of a relationship is often perceived as the most exciting time—it is, after all, the “honeymoon phase” when you’re falling in love and everything feels like a fairytale. But as the years pass, it’s easy to fall into a relationship routine: work, kids, friends and responsibilities often take priority over romance. If you’re looking to reignite those original sparks and amp up the passion, make every date feel like the first with these six tips.

  1. Bring on the kissing. This intimate act is something that often gets pushed to the side as we get older. So after dinner, go in for a make-out session. We promise it will be as fun as you remember.
  2. Do something spontaneous! First dates are all about the unknown, so surprise your significant other with something new. It can be a grand gesture like a trip or even something as small as you picking the restaurant without them knowing.
  3. Literally recreate your first date. Revisit the restaurant where you first noticed his smile, or head to the park where you shyly held hands—traveling back to where it all began can reignite those first-love feelings.
  4. Or try a completely different date. If your date nights have turned into pizza on the couch, it’s time for a change. Try something totally new, whether it’s attending a restaurant opening, doing a wine tasting or even something adventurous like rock climbing.
  5. Communicate. Remember when you shared anything and everything? Discuss your hopes, your dreams and everything in between to connect on that personal level once again.
  6. Reminisce with one another. Looking back and discussing the good times you’ve spent together can remind you both of the fun you had—and can still have!
