Clothing Swap ‘n’ Sip

Remember the glory days of the great American mall in the ’90s? Malls were much more than what we see them as today: a mere collection of stores and kiosks. They were sprawling labyrinths, brimming with the promise of self-expression through fashion. A trip to the mall was an occasion, and if you weren’t meeting friends there at least once a week, your social life seriously suffered. It’s hard to believe that we’ve moved on, spending less and less time walking these community pillars, over the last decade or so; however, the times are changing, we’re moving faster, and we’re spoiled by the convenience of sipping Ménage à Trois Chardonnay while shopping, one click at a time.

We certainly don’t miss the lines, nor do we reminisce about those terrifying fitting room lights, but we do want to inspire you to take back some of the communal sentimentality of the mall. Don’t worry – you’ll still get the full sip-and-shop experience.

Hosting a clothing swap brunch is a lovely way to honor this unsung pastime, and it’ll help you clear your closet of those impulse internet buys that just didn’t work out. You know, the ones that you kept meaning to send back and are now way past the return date.

First, invite friends of all shapes and sizes for maximum wardrobe swap-ability. Prepare for your clothing swap party by stocking up on a couple bottles of Ménage à Trois Prosecco to get your squad feeling catwalk frisky. Having a few juice mixer options will thrill them, too! Make sure to have small-plate breakfast delicacies and other traditional finger foods, like fresh fruit salad, silver-dollar pancakes, a variety of cheese cubes, and a platter of salty bacon and sausage to encourage more bubbly consumption. Finally, just have fun taking turns trying on your new threads.
