Cocktail Remix: The Negroni Sbagliato

Quite possibly one of the greatest “mistakes” in bartending history, the Negroni Sbagliato came about when a busy bartender in Milan accidentally grabbed the prosecco instead of the traditional gin while mixing a Negroni. Subsequently, the bar patron ended up loving the drink, and thus, the Negroni Sbagliato (translation: the Negroni Mistake) was born. Adapted from a recipe by The Straight Up, we’ve made our own accidental apéritif using Ménage à Trois Prosecco. Cheers to making mistakes!

Lately, I feel as though my tough exterior is holding me back from romantic relationships. Opening up isn’t easy for me, as I’ve been hurt in the past. With it’s fizzy finish and crisp fruit flavors, Ménage à Trois Prosecco is a surprisingly versatile varietal that will complement everything from veggie toppings down to the cheesy mozzarella base. Want to get planning? Grab a few bottles of bubbly and create a DIY pizza station. You’ll need:

Dough: Have the dough ready to go in personal-sized batches. Either pre-make your own the day before, or scoop up a few store-bought pizza crusts.

When it comes to affairs of the palate, we’ve always felt that three was much more fun than one, so we played matchmaker and brought together grapes from three distinctive California wine growing regions known for producing exquisite Pinot Noir. Clarksburg grapes add bright flavors and a lovely perfume. North Coast grapes add silkiness, and Central Coast fruit rounds out the blend with beautiful complexity. Enhanced with French and American Oak, our Pinot Noir is sure to have you waxing poetic. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…

Sure, we could have settled for your good old-fashioned double entendre. You know, a not-so-subtle quip accompanied by a sly wink of the eye and a secret titter. But why stop at double when there was a triple entendre just waiting to be had? Ménage à Trois examines what happens when you put three attractive, single, young grapes in one exquisite bottle.

VINEYARDS & WINEMAKING

Ménage à Trois Red brings together three strange bedfellows: Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. To add complexity and retain character, each variety was fermented separately, then blended together prior to bottling. On top we’ve got Zinfandel, a saucy tease that brings blackberry and raspberry jam to the relationship. Merlot, with its generous mouth feel and red fruits, fits perfectly in the middle. The rich flavors and firm tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon make it the ideal candidate for the bottom layer of the trio.

At the risk of sounding suggestive, we dare you to indulge in a little skinny dipping. That’s right, we’re asking you to experience the thrill of the naked grape in a glass of our lively Pinot Grigio. With nothing to hide behind, this gorgeous single-varietal wine bares all with bright fruit flavors and an exuberant acidity that makes you want to shout “yahoo!” and go streaking through the vines. Though we’re technically breaking the rules of Ménage à Trois by giving all our love to just one grape, we think you’ll agree that in this case, one sometimes is better than three. (Gasp! We’re not becoming monogamous, are we?)

VINEYARDS & WINEMAKING

Want to get fresh? We thought so, which is why we let our winemakers run wild with our Pinot Grigio. Though technically not a blend of three this wine is most definitely a Ménage à Trois in spirit and style. Erupting with zesty tropical fruit aromas, vivid fruit flavors balanced by mouth-watering acidity, this exhilarating wine is everything you could want and more. To preserve the fresh, bright fruit flavors and zippy aromas, winemakers cold-ferment the wine in stainless steel tanks, completely avoiding malolactic fermentation. We find all of this technical talk a little, well, stimulating. Perhaps it’s time to sit back and enjoy a glass of our Pinot Grigio and simply let the wine do its thing.

We encourage you to give in to temptation every now and then, and explore your deepest, darkest, most zinful desires. Why be good when it’s so much more fun to be a zinner?

VINEYARDS & WINEMAKING

Our winemakers took a walk on the wild side and found themselves in Lodi, one of California’s most renowned regions for producing Zinfandel. Lodi’s classic Mediterranean climate allows the grapes to bask all day in warm sun, and enjoy cooler temperatures at night, resulting in rich, concentrated fruit flavors, and lush, full textures— ideal for classic California Zins. We mingle grapes from some of Lodi’s best vineyards, and let the fruit get cozy with oak, which adds notes of sweet, toasty vanilla spice. Made in true Ménage à Trois style, our Zin is smooth and fruit forward, with layers of flavors that excite the palate. This wine is definitely born to be wild.
